Join Our Team
You will be The Chief Underwriting Officer. The Chief Underwriting Officer of SiriusPoint International will provide strategic leadership to the underwriting and portfolio management teams across SiriusPoint International. With direction from the Group CUO, s/he will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities, innovating our product offerings, evolving our underwriting appetite, anticipating and reacting to market trends in order to drive profitability across the portfolio.
The successful candidate must have the flexibility to operate across a wide range of products and exposures: property, casualty, specialty and personal lines. As such, the role requires a strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance markets and the legal and regulatory framework. Additionally, the range of clients served requires the capability to evaluate portfolio underwriting, as well as homogeneous risks using analytics and the application of seasoned judgement.
In addition to proven technical skills, the successful candidate must be a credible leader of people and teams, who is committed to excellence and who will also support and contribute to an environment of continuous improvement. This is a highly visible role within the organization and the successful candidate must have the credibility and gravitas needed to interact with the Group Executive Leadership Team, the Board, and key trading partners.
This role reports to the CEO of SiriusPoint International as well as the Group Chief Underwriting officer.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Participate in efforts to shape and drive the overall business strategy for SiriusPoint International as part of overall Group strategy
• Execute the underwriting appetite and risk selection within SiriusPoint International, based on Group underwriting appetite and strategy
• Support delivery of a top and bottom-line business plan, supported by rigorous monitoring and evaluation of underwriting quality, rating, performance and profitability in coordination with the Group CUO
• Ensure appropriate systems and controls are in place and adhered to for the monitoring of underwriting activities, including exposure, income and aggregates in alignment with Group
• Review loss information to identify systemic issues
• Set and monitor underwriting authority limits for underwriters based on direction set by Group CUO
• Carryout and oversee technical underwriting reviews
• Ensure appropriateness of treaty and ceded reinsurance strategy to manage volatility in the portfolio
• Represent International underwriting teams during underwriting reviews, reserving reviews and other executive forums, playing an active role regarding claims reserving, loss ratio forecasting, capital allocation and pricing
• Ensure a logical, reasoned and measured pricing methodology and risk selection for each line of business
• Identify and drive new product opportunities, overseeing the technical and pricing aspects of product development
• Responsible for signing off new policy wording and significant changes to existing manuscript wordings
• Mentor and develop underwriting talent across International through training and empowerment

Your skills and abilities should include:
• 10 or more years of technical underwriting experience with a reputable re/insurance carrier across a broad range of property, casualty, specialty and personal lines
• Results oriented focused on driving profitable growth
• Advanced degree and/or professional certificate in the re/insurance industry is desirable
• Ability to implement decisive change and be an advocate of technology to advance results and capabilities
• Capacity to think strategically and act pragmatically to balance short term and long term results
• Strong leadership skills; ability to establish and maintain credibility and to influence and build trust and work collaboratively
• Team-orientated and enjoy contributing to the overall success of the company
• Ability to collaborate in a multi-national, global company where capital allocation and underwriting appetite is managed across multiple jurisdictions and legal entities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to varying audiences; a good listener and assimilator of ideas
• Comfortable and skilled at operating in a matrix management structure
• Possess a high degree of personal integrity, confidence and maturity, able to influence across all levels
• Creative, proactive and innovative, with tenacity and decisiveness and the courage to take risks
• Intellectually curious
